Family Law

Clients who need the services of a family law attorney are inevitably going through change – sometimes unwelcome change – in their lives. Family law practice encompasses both the beginning and end of relationships, from prenuptial agreements to marital settlement agreements. It also encompasses issues that continue past the end of the marital relationship, including on-going child custody disputes and modification of child support and spousal support.

Family law practice requires familiarity with various professionals who regularly provide assistance in family law cases, such as accountants, appraisers, tax specialists, child custody mediators, evaluators or special masters. Detailed knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of particular experts is indispensable to a successful outcome.

The family law attorneys at our firm bring decades of life, legal and practical experience to the wide range of issues you may face. We care about and are sensitive to the emotional, the financial, and the legal components of your case.

We also care about and are sensitive to your attorney fees and costs. We can mediate your dissolution of marriage or legal separation case where we educate both spouses about the law and assist both spouses with preparing the necessary disclosure and settlement documents without representing either spouse. We can also assist your trial counsel with drafting motions, preparing your case for trial, and making your record for appeal.

Most recently, we have handled dissolution of marriage, legal separation, paternity, complex child custody, child support, spousal support, set aside of marital settlement agreement, registration of child support, and contempt cases. Our practice extends also to prenuptial and post-marital agreements.

Elizabeth (Farley) Niemi, the senior associate at our firm who handles most of our family law matters, whether at the trial level or on appeal, has 15 years of experience as a lawyer. She began her career as an appellate attorney and was subsequently a Senior City Attorney and Deputy District Attorney, then a civil litigator. Five years ago, she made a conscious decision to concentrate her practice on family law.

Jay-Allen Eisen, principal of the firm, has experience in appeals on every aspect of family law—spousal support, child support, child custody, property division, attorney fees and sanctions.

Both Ms. Niemi and Mr. Eisen are dedicated advocates who keep the big picture in mind while also being attentive to the details, all the while being sensitive to the needs of our clients.
